Mayor of Summerside, PEI

Elected Mayor of the City of Summerside on November 7, 2022, Dan is a father and husband, lawyer, entrepreneur, volunteer and former political advisor. An active Rotarian with the Summerside Rotary Club and former board Member with Easter Seals PEI and The Free Store, Dan has also served as President of the Harbour front Theatre Board of Directors, President of the Greater Summerside Chamber of Commerce and as a director with Downtown Summerside Inc. and Summerside Regional Development Corporation.

Federation of Canadian Municipalities

Geoff Stewart, Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of the County of Colchester in Nova Scotia, former president of the Nova Scotia Federation of Municipalities and President on FCM’s Board of Directors. Geoff is proud to have sponsored a resolution on active transportation at FCM’s annual general meeting in 2018, which helped to influence the federal government’s landmark active transportation strategy.

Federation of Canadian Municipalities

With experience spanning from public policy to applied economics research, Elsie supports Canadian municipalities as a Funding Project Officer with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Growing Canada’s Community Canopies Initiative. Elsie holds an undergraduate and master’s degree from the University of Guelph in Food, Agricultural, and Resource Economics and is passionate about finding innovative ways to adapt to a changing climate.

David graduated from UPEI with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 2013 and completed his Chartered Professional Accountant designation in 2016. David’s real estate career began at 19 as a property manager, flipper, and duplex investor. He has since evolved his passion for real estate into full-scale development and management with Arsenault Properties. David is responsible for all things financial, and steering the ship.

Samantha Murphy, RPP, FCIP has a graduate degree in urban and rural planning. She worked at the municipal and provincial levels in both land use planning and municipal governance before moving to the private sector in 2020. In her role as a planning consultant, Samantha has been providing planning and consulting services to a number of municipalities. Other work has included research, not-for-profit strategic planning, facilitation and engagement, and private sector planning services. Samantha was recently inducted into CIP’s College of Fellows in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the profession.

Choices for Youth

Jen Crowe is a Senior Director with Choices for Youth, a non-profit organization focused on ending youth homelessness in Newfoundland and Labrador. She will share the findings of provincial research co-led by Choices for Youth and Municipalities NL, and offer solutions based on the Choices for Youth’s housing models that are addressing growing housing insecurity through partnerships between various levels of government and community agencies. 

BGC Prince County

Adam Binkley has significantly advanced the growth of BGC Prince County during his three-decade tenure as Executive Director. He has navigated numerous challenges typical of non-profits, including financial instability, low membership, board development, fundraising, brand awareness, and stakeholder engagement. Under his leadership, the organization has seen substantial growth, including the recent addition of LifeHouse Emergency Shelter, 10-unit transitional housing, 24-unit permanent affordable housing, and property for an early years centre.

BluMetric

As a Senior Business Development Manager with BluMetric Scott believes that everyone deserves clean, accessible water, and that environmental stewardship of this resource is critical to a sustainable and healthy planet. A former provincial candidate, Scott also served 40 years in the Canadian Armed Forces, which included commands at sea, a deployment to Afghanistan, and as Director of Innovation at Canadian Special Operations Forces Command.

IWK Foundation

Jennifer Gillivan, President & CEO, IWK Foundation is an award-winning leader and active community volunteer. She is passionate about the rights of women and children and recently won Canada’s Most Admired CEO™ in the Non-Profit and Broader Public Sector and Atlantic Business Magazine’s 25 Most Powerful Women. Jennifer and her husband Joe call Halifax home and are grandparents to Nora, Franklin and Malachy.

Minister of Social Development & Seniors, Prince Edward Island

The Hon. Barb Ramsay has worked as a Youth Addictions Worker with the Youth Justice Facility & Strength Program, a Patient Care Worker with the medical & palliative units at Prince County Hospital and a Life Skills Coach. Twice elected to Summerside City Council, Barb has been the Council representative for emergency services and Co-Chair of the Planning Committee. Currently, Barb serves on the Cabinet Committee on Policies and Priorities for the Government of PEI.

Minister of Rural and Economic Development and Minister Responsible for ACOA

The Honourable Gudie Hutchings was born and raised in NL. Prior to her current role as Minister of Rural and Economic Development and Minister Responsible for ACOA she has served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Rural Economic Development, and helped create a national action plan to end gender-based violence.Justice Facility & Strength Program, a Patient Care Worker with the medical & palliative units at Prince County Hospital and a Life Skills Coach. Coalition for a Better Future

The Honourable Lisa Raitt serves as the co-chair of the Coalition for a Better Future, a diverse group of Canadian leaders and organizations spanning business, labour and civil society – working together to achieve a long term plan for economic growth that is inclusive and sustainable. Ms. Raitt brings a wealth of experience from both the public and private sectors. She was elected into the House of Commons in 2008, where she went on to hold three senior portfolios serving as Minister of Natural Resources, Minister of Labour, and Minister of Transport.

Smart Prosperity Institute

Dr. Mike Moffatt is the Founding Director of the PLACE Centre and the Senior Director of Policy and Innovation at the Smart Prosperity Institute. Mike’s research focuses on the intersection of regional economic development, building child-friendly, climate-friendly housing and communities, and clean innovation. In 2017, Mike was the Chief Innovation Fellow for the Government of Canada, advising Deputy Ministers on innovation policy and emerging trends. 

Federal Minister of Housing and Infrastructure

First elected as the Member of Parliament in 2015, Minister Fraser has previously served as Minister of Immigration, Refugees & Citizenship, as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance and to the Minister of Middle Class Prosperity and Associate Minister of Finance, and as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Environment and Climate Change. In 2021, he also served concurrently as Parliamentary Secretary to the Deputy Prime Minister.

Hired in 2009 while the Wind Farm was under construction Sam is a Mechanical Engineer holding a Master’s degree from the Green Energy Research Institute at the University of Waterloo. He has spent his working career with City and has had the pleasure of serving as Junior Project Engineer, Municipal Works Assistant Supervisor, and Water Pollution Control Center Supervisor, and now Renewable Energy Production Supervisor, having joined Sunbank in July 2023.

City of Summerside

Summerside’s Director of Municpal Services provides an overview of the City’s Energy Story. Greg received the B.Eng. degree in electrical & electronics engineering from the UNB, Fredericton, NB, Canada, in 1991.,He joined the City of Summerside, PE, Canada, as Director of Municipal Services, in 2000. He oversees the public works, water, sewer, and electric utilities and directs corporate IT. His interest is the local integration of excess wind energy as part of the Summerside MyPowerNet initiative.,Mr. Gaudet is a Registered Professional Engineer in PEI.

Summerside Xchange 

Summerside’s Director of Economic Development provides an overview of the City’s Economic Development, relationships and our future. Michael is a certified Economic Development Practitioner and has been working in the field of Economic Development for the past 26 years, 20 of which have been with the City of Summerside. Mike currently sits on the National Economic Developers Association Board of Directors and is Past President of the Association.

Maritime Electric Company, Limited 

Enrique Riveroll is the Vice President, Sustainability and Customer Operations at Maritime Electric Company Ltd. and is responsible for transmission & distribution, health and safety, sustainability, customer service, information technology, corporate communications & government relations. Since joining the company in 2000 Enrique has contributed to its success in various engineering, supervisory, managerial and executive positions.

Minister of Social Development and NB Housing, NB 

In 2017, 2019 and 2020, Ms. Green was recognized as one of the Top 50 CEOs in Atlantic Canada by Atlantic Business Magazine and received the 2017 BMO Innovation and Global Growth Award. She was named a Fellow in the prestigious Canadian Academy of Engineers in 2018. Ms. Green is the first engineer to be named New Brunswick’s Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure.

Minister of Housing, Land and Communities, PEI

Rob is a lifelong resident of Charlottetown-Brighton where he represented residents for two terms on Charlottetown City Council, and where he has volunteered with community groups like the United Way and the Colonel Gray Education Foundation. Rob is an advisor, partner and investor in new business startups in the bioscience, sports technology and renewable energy sectors, and he worked as a consultant in the IT sector. In 2023 Rob was elected to the PEI Legislative Assembly.

Habitat for Humanity PEI

Pam Schurman Montgomery began working in the family business at a very early age, taking on various roles from floor sweeper to purchasing agent, with many others in between. Pam’s resume is a bit of a jack-of-all-trades document. Currently holding the title of CEO at Habitat for Humanity PEI. Pam has volunteered with many organizations in the past & currently sits on the Charlottetown Airport Authority Board & the Board of Governors of UPEI.

Raising the Roof

As the Executive Director of Raising the Roof, Sheldon Pollett has over 25 years of executive leadership in affordable housing development and operations, social enterprise development, public policy, and government engagement. Sheldon is the former co-chair of the National Learning Community on Youth Homelessness and was a founding Board member of A Way Home Canada - A National Coalition to End Youth Homelessness. He is a past Board member of Raising the Roof (2018) and the Canadian Housing and Renewal Association. Sheldon is also a past founding Board member of SmartICE – Sea Ice Monitoring and Information Inc. (an Artic Inspiration Prize winner and recipient of a UN Global Climate Action Award).

Adrian has been with Raising the Roof since 2020 and has been a driving force in the organization’s shift to homelessness prevention through real estate development. He brings market housing experience to RTR, having spent five years as an acquisitions and development management specialist for a condominium firm prior to 2020. Adrian has deployed over $60M of capital to residential and mixed-use development projects and since his arrival at RTR, he has cultivated a predevelopment pipeline of over 300 units of new affordable housing.

Craig is a skilled government relations and advocacy strategist. He founded Pollett Strategy Inc. to help folks struggling to navigate governance and public policy challenges. Throughout his career, he has worked tirelessly to strengthen the municipal legislative framework and ensure long-term municipal sustainability. His work in regional economic development has taken him to Russia, Ireland, Iceland and Bolivia.
